Vietnam – Australia: Promoting agricultural innovation

On May 13, the Australian Government announced the fifth funding round of the Aus4Innovation Partnership Fund, with a budget of AUD 2 million to support technological initiatives in Vietnam’s agricultural sector, contributing to effective climate change response.

This is a strategic international cooperation initiative between Vietnam and Australia to promote sustainable and inclusive agricultural development.

Under the theme “High-Tech Innovation for Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture,” the program prioritizes projects with high potential for practical application and sustainable impact on rural communities—areas severely affected by extreme weather events and the depletion of natural resources.

Through a competitive and transparent selection process, each project will receive support ranging from AUD 300,000 to 700,000 (approximately VND 5–12 billion). This opportunity opens the door to collaboration between research institutions, businesses, and innovation-driven startups from Vietnam and Australia in developing pioneering ideas with scalability and tangible, lasting impacts in the agricultural sector.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Ms. Gillian Bird, emphasized: “We believe that innovation is the key for Vietnam’s agriculture to both grow and adapt to climate change.”

From the Vietnamese side, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy stated that the Aus4Innovation program encourages scientists and businesses to boldly realize their breakthrough ideas, helping to enhance the agricultural sector’s resilience amid rapidly changing climate conditions.

To date, the Aus4Innovation Fund has supported 15 projects, 12 of which have been completed with practical outcomes such as sustainable farming models and technological solutions that help farmers improve resilience to climate change.
