On October 23, the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam, organized a technical workshop on “Innovation in Flood Control and Enhancing Climate Resilience”.

The workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to share experiences and introduce advanced technologies, from smart early warning models, artificial intelligence (AI) applications, and open-source software, to integrated disaster risk management strategies.

Technical Workshop on “Innovation in Flood Control and Enhancing Climate Resilience”.

Ms. Doan Thi Tuyet Nga, Head of the International Cooperation Division under the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority, emphasized that amid increasingly erratic and devastating disasters caused by climate change, Vietnam needs to shift from a reactive approach to a proactive one, focusing on prevention and integrated risk management. In this transition, innovation, science and technology, and international cooperation are the key pillars.

Mr. Sander Capaij, Delta Programme Coordinator at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management of the Netherlands, stated that the Dutch Government has consistently prioritized cooperation with Vietnam in flood management and climate adaptation through various projects and activities implemented across the country. He affirmed the Netherlands’ commitment to continuing close collaboration with the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority and other relevant agencies in the future.

At the workshop, participants heard a series of thematic presentations, including: “Application of Science and Technology in Disaster Prevention and Control and Priority Directions” presented by the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority; “Flood Risk Management – From Global Experience to Solutions for Vietnam” introduced by Haskoning Company (the Netherlands); and discussions on intelligent disaster warning platforms combining the open-source Telemac software with artificial intelligence for flood modeling in the Mekong Delta.

Alongside the workshop, at the Vietwater 2025 Exhibition, the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority, in collaboration with domestic and international enterprises, organized a display booth showcasing advanced products, models, and technologies in flood management and disaster risk reduction. The solutions introduced not only contribute to the modernization of disaster management in Vietnam but also open up new opportunities for collaboration among government agencies, research institutes, and private sector companies.
