Minister Tran Duc Thang runs for 16th National Assembly, outlines five action commitments

Standing for election to the 16th National Assembly, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang announced five action commitments should he be entrusted by voters to serve as a National Assembly deputy, emphasizing responsibility, reform, integrity, and action in the interests of the people and the nation.

First, Minister Tran Duc Thang affirmed his absolute loyalty to the Fatherland, the People, and the Constitution; his commitment to fully discharging the duties of an elected representative; and maintaining close ties with voters by listening to, absorbing, and faithfully and promptly conveying their opinions and recommendations to the National Assembly and competent authorities. In his view, a National Assembly deputy must truly serve as a reliable bridge between voters and the Party and the State, thereby strengthening public trust.

His second commitment is to actively contribute to the development and improvement of the legal system, particularly in the fields of agriculture and the environment. In his capacity as head of the sector, he pledged to help refine institutions, mechanisms, and policies in a coherent, transparent, and feasible manner; remove bottlenecks, unlock resources, and promote ecological agriculture and modern rural development, while ensuring harmony between economic growth and environmental protection.

In his third commitment, MrTran Duc Thang underscored the responsibility to oversee the implementation of laws and policies, closely monitoring key sectoral programs and projects as well as issues directly affecting people’s livelihoods. Through such oversight, he aims to promptly identify obstacles and shortcomings and recommend appropriate adjustments to ensure that policies are effectively implemented and deliver tangible results.

Under his fourth commitment, he pledged to uphold the role of a representative of the people by maintaining regular voter engagement, conducting dialogues, providing explanations, and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of citizens. He also emphasized stronger coordination with local authorities in addressing petitions and complaints within his mandate.

His fifth commitment is to continuously cultivate moral integrity and political steadfastness; uphold transparency and probity; and enhance professional expertise and parliamentary skills. He affirmed that he would demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility, align words with actions, and carry out his duties with dedication and objectivity.

The announcement of these five action commitments reflects Minister Tran Duc Thang’s determination to contribute actively to institutional reform, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state management in the fields of agriculture and environment, promote sustainable development, and enhance people’s living standards. If entrusted by voters, he affirmed that he would strive to fully deliver on these commitments and live up to their confidence.

Box: Minister Tran Duc Thang, born in 1973, is from Vinh Phuc Province (now Phu Tho Province). He is a member of the 13th and 14th Party Central Committees and currently serves as a Politburo member of the 14th tenure.

During his career, he held the positions of Deputy Director General and later Director General of the Department of Public Asset Management under the Ministry of Finance. From 2018 to 2022, he worked at the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission, serving first as a member and then as Deputy Chairman of the Commission.

In October 2022, he was assigned and appointed by the Politburo as Secretary of the Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee for the 2020–2025 term. From July 1, 2025, he was appointed Permanent Deputy Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate.

On July 17, 2025, Mr. Tran Duc Thang, then a member of the Party Central Committee and Permanent Deputy Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate, was assigned to work at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment as Acting Minister. He was subsequently approved by the National Assembly as Minister of Agriculture and Environment.
