The meeting was organized in line with cooperation orientations agreed during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Algeria in November 2025.
Recently, at the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thai Nguyen, the Viet Nam - Algeria agricultural cooperation session took place. This marks the launch of a series of collaborative activities between the two sides, with tea identified as the initial priority sector.
The session was held in a hybrid format, combining in-person and virtual participation, with the aim of advancing concrete cooperation projects and strengthening linkages among government agencies, businesses, and research institutions from both countries.

Pham Ngoc Mau, Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Department under Viet Nam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, co-chaired the meeting on the Vietnamese side alongside Gharnaout, Director General of Agricultural Production at Algeria’s Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries. The session aimed to operationalize directives and commitments made by senior leaders of both countries to promote agricultural cooperation.
In Thai Nguyen, Duong Son Ha, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, hosted the delegation along with representatives from specialized agencies and tea enterprises. Provincial leaders highlighted local strengths in tea production and processing, affirming readiness to share expertise, transfer technology, and jointly implement practical cooperation models.
Representing the Algerian Embassy in Hanoi, Ouhaddad Mohamed, First Secretary, emphasized that Algeria serves as a gateway connecting African and European markets. He reaffirmed the country’s commitment to advancing agricultural cooperation with Viet Nam, positioning agriculture as a priority in the bilateral strategic partnership.

The session followed cooperation directions outlined during the November 2025 visit and aimed to promote substantive and effective collaboration. Delegates noted significant potential in agricultural cooperation, particularly in tea development, which aligns with Viet Nam’s strengths and Algeria’s domestic production needs.
Representatives from Algeria’s Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries expressed interest in deepening cooperation focused on improving product quality, sharing production experience, transferring technology, and providing technical training. Beyond tea, Algeria proposed expanding cooperation to include rice and bananas, while also strengthening scientific research, capacity building, and agricultural innovation.
During discussions, participants from both sides exchanged views on cooperation mechanisms, the feasibility of pilot projects, joint venture models, and technical, market, and policy solutions to ensure effectiveness and sustainability.
Concluding the session, both sides agreed to designate focal points, continue consultations, and further clarify cooperation orientations in the coming period, with the goal of building a sustainable, effective agricultural cooperation framework aligned with the development strategies of both countries.
