Vinh Long has introduced a set of Green Tourism Criteria, establishing a framework for sustainable development, improving service quality, protecting the environment, and enhancing the competitiveness of the local tourism sector.
The Vinh Long People’s Committee issued Decision No. 2687/QĐ-UBND on April 20, 2026, introducing a set of criteria to support sustainable, environmentally friendly tourism development linked to preserving local cultural values. The criteria apply to three groups: travel companies, tourist sites and attractions, and accommodation establishments.

Tailored to each group, the criteria comprehensively cover tourism activities. Travel companies are assessed across six themes with 30 mandatory and 50 recommended indicators, while tourist sites and accommodations are evaluated under 10 themes, focusing on environmental management, efficient resource use, and waste reduction.
Each criterion comes with clear indicators and evidence requirements, making implementation and assessment more straightforward. To meet the standards, entities must comply with all mandatory indicators and achieve a minimum score on recommended ones.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Be Muoi, Vice Chairwoman of the Vinh Long People’s Committee, the criteria mark a concrete step toward developing tourism in a more professional, sustainable, and distinctive direction. The province is shifting from a ‘stopover’ to a true ‘destination,’ requiring improvements in service quality and visitor experience.

The criteria also set standards for resource efficiency, reducing plastic waste, protecting ecosystems, and respecting local culture, thereby promoting responsible tourism behavior.
Through this initiative, Vinh Long aims to build a green and civilized destination, strengthen its competitiveness, and move toward becoming the “heart” of eco-cultural tourism in the Mekong Delta.
