Mangrove restoration project launched in Ca Mau

On May 26, in An Xuyen ward, the Ca Mau Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment collaborated with the World Wide Fund for Nature in Vietnam (WWF-Vietnam) to organize an inception workshop for the project "Supporting mangrove restoration and enhancing the climate change response capacity of ecosystems and communities in Ca Mau province". The project is part of the "Green Climate for People and Nature" Program.

Mr. Van Ngoc Thinh, CEO of WWF-Vietnam, stated that the project is implemented in the 2026-2032 period, aiming to simultaneously restore the mangrove ecosystem and strengthen the local community's adaptability to climate change.

The project focuses on three main content groups, including restoring and improving mangrove management efficiency, and supporting sustainable livelihoods by expanding aquaculture models under the forest canopy and strengthening value chain linkages. It simultaneously promotes sustainable management and financial mechanisms with the participation of multiple stakeholders, including the private sector.

Mr. Phan Minh Tri, Deputy Director of the Ca Mau Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, assessed that the project is highly practical and aligns with the sustainable development orientation of the Mekong Delta in adapting to climate change.

The project is deployed in six coastal communes of the province, namely Cai Doi Vam, Dat Moi, Dat Mui, Phan Ngoc Hien, Tan An and Tam Giang. With a total non-refundable grant of over 59 billion VND, it focuses on tasks such as restoring and protecting 1,500 hectares of mangrove ecosystems, developing sustainable livelihoods under the forest canopy, building shrimp-forest linkage chains, applying nature-based solutions and enhancing multi-stakeholder coordination mechanisms.
