The national launch ceremony in observance of World Environment Day, World Ocean Day, the Month of Action for the Environment, and Viet Nam Sea and Islands Week was held on the June 6.

On the morning of June 6, a national launching ceremony in response to World Environment Day, World Ocean Day, the Month of Action for the Environment and Viet Nam Sea and Islands Week 2026 was held in Nghe An Province, with the participation of leaders of the Party, State, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Nghe An Provincial People’s Committee, international organizations and representatives from various sectors of society.

Designed as the opening event of the country’s largest annual environmental campaign, the program aimed to widely disseminate environmental protection messages from the central level to coastal communities, helping raise awareness and encourage practical actions toward a green, clean and beautiful environment.

This year’s activities took place as Viet Nam continues to accelerate the implementation of its international commitments on sustainable development, greenhouse gas emission reduction and biodiversity conservation. Challenges such as marine plastic pollution, natural resource depletion, climate change and increasingly extreme weather events underscore the urgent need to transform production and consumption patterns while strengthening environmental responsibility across society.

As part of the launch ceremony, a range of meaningful community activities were organized with the participation of leaders of the Party and State, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, the Nghe An Provincial People’s Committee, businesses and supporting organizations.

One of the highlights was a commitment-signing ceremony and the presentation of support packages to fishing communities in Nghe An Province. The assistance included 100 water tanks, 1,000 national flags, 500 flashlights, 25 bicycles for disadvantaged students with strong academic performance and five water filtration systems distributed to localities in Dien Chau, Cua Lo and Quynh Luu.

Support for fishermen not only carries social welfare significance but also reflects recognition of those who directly work at sea, harvest marine resources and contribute to protecting fisheries. Through these activities, the program sought to enhance awareness among fishing communities about responsible fishing practices, marine environmental protection and the sustainable use of natural resources.

Immediately after the ceremony, delegates and participants joined a beach clean-up campaign along Binh Minh Beach and coastal areas in Cua Lo Ward, Nghe An Province. The program also included the planting of 50 coconut trees to improve the landscape and promote environmental awareness within the community.

The beach-cleaning activities attracted youth union members, armed forces personnel, women’s unions, students and local residents. Hundreds of bags of plastic waste, discarded fishing nets and other forms of waste were collected, sorted and transported for proper disposal. The initiative served as a practical effort to reduce marine pollution while conveying a message of shared responsibility for protecting coastal ecosystems.

Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Politburo Member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, emphasized that environmental protection can no longer be regarded solely as the responsibility of environmental agencies or government authorities. Instead, it must become a common mission of society, reflected through concrete daily actions.

According to her, every citizen, especially Party members and public officials, should set an example through simple yet practical actions such as avoiding littering, reducing the use of plastic bags and single-use plastics, conserving electricity and water, planting and caring for trees, and maintaining cleanliness in public spaces.

She also noted that environmentally friendly consumption habits can generate long-term positive impacts. When consumers prioritize green products, reusable goods and waste reduction, businesses are encouraged to invest in sustainable production models, thereby supporting the development of a circular economy and reducing pressure on natural resources.

The President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee further called on every household to build environmentally friendly lifestyles, maintain “clean homes, clean kitchens and clean neighborhoods,” practice waste separation at source and create green, clean, beautiful, progressive and happy living environments.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung highly appreciated the activities organized during the ceremony and expressed hope that they would evolve beyond a short-term campaign into a broad, continuous and long-lasting social movement. He said environmental protection should become an integral part of people’s awareness, thinking, lifestyles and voluntary actions, contributing to a more sustainable, greener, cleaner and more beautiful Viet Nam.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, environmental protection needs to be closely integrated into all socio-economic development strategies, plans, and master plans. Local authorities should continue to strengthen public awareness efforts, replicate community-based environmental protection models, enhance waste management, and promote green initiatives tailored to local conditions and practical realities.
