Viet Nam participates in ACDM48 in Indonesia

ACDM48 is the annual ASEAN forum on disaster management, bringing together the 11 ASEAN Member States to review progress and strengthen regional cooperation.

From 28 July to 1 August, a delegation from the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (VDDMA), led by Deputy Director General Nguyen Truong Son, participated in the 48th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM48) and related events in Bandung, Indonesia.

ACDM48 marked a significant milestone as the first year of implementation of the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response Work Program 2026-2030.

Signed in 2005, the AADMER serves as the cornerstone of ASEAN's collective commitment to disaster prevention, risk reduction, emergency response, and post-disaster recovery. Over the past 20 years, the Agreement has been implemented through three consecutive work programs under the strategic guidance of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management, significantly strengthening the region's institutional capacity and operational readiness for disaster management.

As part of the programme, the Vietnamese delegation participated in the ACDM48 Plenary Session, the 24th Meeting of the Governing Board of the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre), the ASEAN Disaster Resilience Platform (ADRP), the ASEAN Plus Three meetings with China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, as well as dialogue sessions with development partners and thematic workshops on community-based disaster risk reduction. The delegation also held bilateral meetings to strengthen cooperation in disaster risk management and emergency response.

Viet Nam's active participation in ACDM48 demonstrated its strong commitment to regional cooperation and proactive engagement in ASEAN's disaster management mechanisms. It also contributed to the shared regional goal of strengthening disaster preparedness, enhancing resilience, and promoting sustainable development across ASEAN communities amid growing disaster risks.
