Viet Nam to host first global marine aquaculture exhibition

The Global Marintech Expo 2026 will feature major maritime nations like Norway, Israel and China to boost the modern marine aquaculture industry.

On the afternoon of September 5 in Ha Noi, the organizing committee officially introduced the Global Marintech Expo 2026. Scheduled for November 18-20, 2026, at the VEC National Exhibition Center, the event is jointly organized by the Department of Fisheries and Surveillance, the Viet Nam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS) and the Viet Nam Seaculture Association (VSA) under the theme "Green aquaculture - Technology and digital transformation - Sustainable development".

Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Chairman of the Viet Nam Fisheries Society, stated that while Viet Nam possesses immense marine aquaculture potential, current production remains fragmented. He emphasized that science, technology and innovation will serve as the crucial driving forces for breakthrough developments in the seafood sector.

As Viet Nam's first specialized international exhibition comprehensively focusing on industrial marine farming, the event will feature six exhibition areas covering the entire seafood value chain. Alongside the exhibition, a "Knowledge Forum" will gather experts to discuss offshore farming technologies, recirculating aquaculture systems, and onshore marine farming models.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Dung, Secretary General of the Viet Nam Fisheries Society, noted that the participation of nations with strong marine farming sectors, such as Norway, Israel and China, offers a valuable opportunity for Viet Nam to learn about modern technologies and management models. The expo will also feature an international trade and investment matching program to foster substantive cooperation and technology transfer.

Mr. Bui Tuan Anh, Deputy Secretary General of the Viet Nam Seaculture Association, emphasized that humanity is viewing the ocean as the "final field" to be cultivated with science. Modern marine farming boasts superior economic and environmental advantages, such as low feed conversion ratios for marine fish and massive protein yields from seaweed without requiring freshwater or fertilizers, while strongly absorbing carbon.

He asserted that transitioning from wild catch to large-scale, data-driven marine farming is a global strategy for food security and sustainable development and Viet Nam cannot stand outside this inevitable trend.

Spanning over 50,000 square meters with 250 booths, the Global Marintech Expo 2026 is expected to attract 8,000 to 10,000 specialized visitors from 20 to 30 countries and territories. This event will serve as a vital foundation for building a modern marine farming ecosystem in Viet Nam.
