Viet Nam wood industry eyes Argentina for raw materials

Argentina's abundant wood resources offer favorable conditions for Vietnamese and Argentine firms to boost cooperation in raw wood supply.

According to the Viet Nam Trade Office in Argentina, the agency recently held a working session with representatives of several Argentine enterprises operating in trade, mining, wood, energy, and investment to discuss the capacity to supply raw materials to the Vietnamese market, as well as investment cooperation opportunities between businesses of the two countries.

At the meeting, Mr. Ngo Manh Khoi, Head of the Viet Nam Trade Office in Argentina, stated that strengthening direct connections with Argentine enterprises is a core activity of the Office to support Vietnamese companies in sourcing supplies, accessing the market, and seeking investment opportunities in the country.

Accordingly, the two countries will implement business matching in practice, focusing on products and sectors with clear demand, stable supply capacity, and the potential to form actual transactions.

Among these, raw wood is a potential area for cooperation. Argentina boasts abundant wood resources, with main products including sawn pine wood and shaped coniferous wood, while Viet Nam has a huge demand for raw wood to serve its wood production and processing industry.

At the working session, Mr. Fernando Maniera, a representative of Argentine enterprises, said that strengthening direct exchanges between businesses in both countries will help parties better understand market demand, product standards, and supply capacity, thereby gradually building specific cooperation opportunities.

According to Mr. Ngo Manh Khoi, beyond importing raw materials, Vietnamese enterprises can explore direct investment opportunities in Argentina, especially in processing, manufacturing, and adding value to available local resources. Specifically, wood processing and furniture manufacturing are among the sectors with noteworthy potential.

Argentina is currently one of Viet Nam's crucial supply partners for various agricultural products such as corn, soybeans, and soybean meal. With highly complementary economic structures, Viet Nam and Argentina still have ample room to expand cooperation in trade, investment, and processing industries.
