25,000 rice pots for 2026 Viet Nam International Rice Festival

Rice pots are being carefully tended to ensure good growth and schedule for the 2nd Viet Nam International Rice Festival - Can Tho.

On the afternoon of September 18, the Can Tho City People's Committee held a meeting of the Organizing Committee for the 2nd Viet Nam International Rice Festival - Can Tho 2026 to review the preparation progress of contents for the event.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, stated that the sector is growing 25,000 pots of rice for exhibition at the Festival.

To date, specialized officials have completed transplanting batch 1 with 19,000 rice pots to ensure the supply of 18,000 required pots on schedule and with suitable farming techniques applied. Simultaneously, they are focusing on caring for, regulating, and maintaining appropriate water levels in the pots. The rat barrier membrane and anti-bird netting systems are also regularly inspected to minimize losses during the growth process.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment continues to tend seedlings to transplant 2,000 pots in batch 2 for exhibiting rice in the blooming stage. The sector also continues to fill soil into 5,000 pots to prepare for transplanting in the booting, tillering, and seedling stages.

Besides the 25,000 rice pots for the 2nd Viet Nam International Rice Festival, the Department has completed 300 large pots of CTR and CT rice varieties to be displayed in the exhibition area showcasing the agricultural and environmental achievements of Can Tho City.

Regarding professional contents, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has sought opinions on the draft plan for holding a press conference regarding the Viet Nam International Rice Festival. Simultaneously, it drafted a press release and plans to organize two workshops themed "Viet Nam's Green Rice - Creating Value, Reaching Internationally" and "The Future of Green Rice Grains - Scientific, Technological, Digital, and Low-Emission Solutions".

Preparations for the demonstration area of advanced machinery and equipment in rice production at Hamlet 4, Vi Thuy Commune (Can Tho City), are also underway. The Department of Agriculture and Environment has coordinated with the Vi Thuy Commune People's Committee to hold meetings with residents who own land in the demonstration zone to discuss and agree on the organization plan and necessary conditions for the event.

This meeting also announced the decision to establish the Organizing Committee for the 2nd Viet Nam International Rice Festival - Can Tho 2026, as well as approved the draft on establishing service sub-committees and assigning tasks to each member.

Mr. Tran Chi Hung, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, requested that units focus on evaluating, synthesizing, and appraising proposals and ideas from enterprises. Simultaneously, they must finalize the master plan according to the approved contents.

Departments, branches, sub-committees, and Organizing Committee members need to be assigned specific tasks and proactively develop action plans to ensure work progress and quality.

The leader of the Can Tho City People's Committee also requested maintaining regular briefings among sub-committees, coordinating units, and the Standing Committee of the City People's Committee to promptly resolve difficulties and obstacles arising during the preparation process.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment, acting as the standing agency, is responsible for monitoring, urging progress, and receiving and synthesizing feedback from Organizing Committee members, contributing to ensuring that the preparation contents for the 2nd Viet Nam International Rice Festival are implemented synchronously.
