Beyond technology, Denmark is also showcasing data-driven solutions to enhance the sustainability of Viet Nam’s agrifood value chain.

On September 29, the Danish Agriculture & Food Council, in coordination with the Embassy of Denmark in Viet Nam, organized the seminar “Smart Production, Sustainable Future: Danish Agrifood-Tech for Viet Nam.” The event brought together eight leading Danish companies and around 100 experts and delegates working in Viet Nam’s agrifood sector.

Speaking at the seminar, Tran Phu Cuong, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Sub-Department of Animal Health and Production, said the city is undergoing a major restructuring of its agricultural sector toward high-tech, ecological and circular agriculture, in line with urbanization and sustainable development. Livestock production is an important part of this transition, contributing to the supply of essential food and providing livelihoods for local people.

“Today, the livestock sector is placing increasing emphasis on the application of scientific and technological advances to improve productivity, quality and production efficiency. Biosafety, disease prevention and control, product quality control and environmental protection are always given top priority,” he said.

According to Mathias Sandholt Knauf of the Danish Agriculture & Food Council, as demand for food continues to increase, the global agrifood sector is facing challenges that transcend national borders. Efficient resource use, greater application of technology and stronger international cooperation are essential to building sustainable food production systems.

Against this backdrop, Danish companies expressed their willingness to share experience, explore cooperation opportunities and support the transition of Viet Nam’s agrifood value chain toward greater sustainability, innovation and safety.

Sharing the same view, Lasse Pedersen Hjortshøj, Head of Trade and Investment at the Embassy of Denmark in Viet Nam, emphasized that knowledge exchange and experience sharing between businesses and experts from the two countries would open up further opportunities for practical cooperation in the agrifood sector.

“Strengthening cooperation across the entire value chain will help Viet Nam transition toward more efficient, safe and sustainable food production, while continuing to strengthen the two countries’ longstanding strategic partnership in this sector.

“Danish companies will bring solutions across multiple stages of the value chain, from animal feed and aquafeed, animal health and welfare to heat stress management, feed efficiency, precision feeding, data-driven livestock production, food processing and biotechnology,” he said.

During the panel discussion, experts focused on the potential application of technology in pig production, dairy farming and other production sectors. Integrated feed solutions, climate-adapted farming techniques and data-driven management are expected to help production facilities improve efficiency and productivity while enhancing animal welfare.

Biosolutions, animal health practices, cold chain technology and clean energy solutions for improving the quality, safety and resilience of the food value chain also received particular attention.

As part of the program, the Danish business delegation conducted field visits to several pig farms, dairy farms and production facilities. The visits provided opportunities for businesses from the two countries to exchange directly on production conditions, practical challenges and technology needs, thereby exploring suitable cooperation opportunities.

The seminar and the working program of the Danish agrifood-tech business delegation formed part of a series of activities marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Viet Nam (1971-2026), contributing to expanded cooperation in agriculture, food and the green transition.
