Viet Nam and Poland are seeking to boost investment, develop technology and expand supply chains following the upgrade of their bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership.

At a Viet Nam-Poland business roundtable in Hanoi on the afternoon of October 26, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung called on businesses from both countries to seize opportunities for cooperation, expand into new markets and pursue long-term investment projects.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung emphasized that the economy, trade and investment are key pillars of bilateral relations. He said there was considerable room for the two countries to strengthen market links, deepen manufacturing cooperation and participate more extensively in international supply chains.

Poland is Viet Nam’s largest trading partner in Central and Eastern Europe and its 36th-largest foreign investor. Bilateral trade reached nearly US$4 billion in 2025, up almost 15% from the previous year. In the first nine months of 2026, trade continued to grow, rising 19% year on year to nearly US$3.5 billion.

To unlock further potential, Viet Nam is encouraging Polish businesses to expand investment in renewable energy, smart agriculture, digital transformation, railways, shipbuilding and environmental protection, while promoting technology transfer. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung also called on the two sides to work together to resolve obstacles related to policies, investment procedures, immigration and customs, making it easier for businesses to operate.

Transport links were also identified as an important factor in promoting trade and investment. Poland’s national airline, LOT, is expected to resume direct flights between Warsaw and Hanoi on March 31, 2027. The airline is also interested in developing cargo services between the two countries. In addition to air transport, Viet Nam has proposed strengthening maritime and rail connections to facilitate the movement of goods.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk described Viet Nam as one of Asia’s fastest-growing economies and Poland’s largest trading partner in Southeast Asia. However, he noted that the scale of bilateral trade and investment remained below its potential, calling for both countries to broaden cooperation into higher-value-added sectors.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk proposed closer cooperation in pharmaceuticals, defense, dual-use technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) and space technology. In the pharmaceutical sector, he cited Adamed Pharma, a Polish group that has operated in Viet Nam since 2017 and invested in a local manufacturing facility. Building on this presence, the two countries could expand cooperation in pharmaceutical research, development, manufacturing and exports to regional markets.

Beyond pharmaceuticals, Poland also has strengths in satellite technology, optics and data analytics. According to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, these technologies could be applied in Viet Nam to Earth observation, water resource management, agricultural development, environmental protection and infrastructure monitoring.

The Polish Prime Minister said businesses from both countries should move beyond trading goods and pursue deeper cooperation in research, technology development and the commercialization of new solutions. This approach is expected to create additional investment opportunities and increase the value of bilateral cooperation.

Viet Nam and Poland established diplomatic relations on February 4, 1950. The two countries aim to increase bilateral trade to US$6 billion by 2030.
