Synchronicity Earth is supporting Da Nang and Quang Ngai in implementing a conservation project for the red-shanked and grey-shanked douc langurs.

The Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee has approved a project to conserve red-shanked and grey-shanked douc langurs in Da Nang City and Quang Ngai Province, funded by the UK-based organization Synchronicity Earth, with a total budget of over VND 6.5 billion.

The project will run from October 2026 to September 2029.

The Da Nang City People's Committee will serve as the governing authority, while the Da Nang Union of Science and Technology Associations will act as the project owner. The GreenViet Biodiversity Conservation Centre will be responsible for implementation.

In Da Nang, the project will cover Son Tra, An Hai, Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Cam Le, Hoa Xuan, and Lien Chieu wards. No activities will be conducted on the Son Tra Peninsula.

In Quang Ngai, the project will be implemented in Tu Mo Rong Protection Forest, Chu Mom Ray National Park, and Dak Tang Hamlet in Mang Den Commune.

In Da Nang, the project focuses on strengthening red-shanked douc langur conservation through community education, resource mobilization, and improved biodiversity conservation efforts.

Meanwhile, in Quang Ngai, the project aims to protect grey-shanked douc langurs by strengthening scientific databases, improving the protection of priority populations, and encouraging local communities to participate in forest conservation and develop conservation-linked livelihoods.

Under the approval decision, the Da Nang Union of Science and Technology Associations is responsible for receiving, managing, and using the funding in accordance with the approved objectives and activities. It must also complete all required legal procedures before organizing training programs or receiving international experts and volunteers involved in the project.

Red-shanked and grey-shanked douc langurs are rare primates of significant biodiversity value, facing numerous threats to their survival.

The project is expected to strengthen douc langur conservation, raise public awareness, and encourage greater community participation in protecting forest ecosystems.
