On December 19, Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company (Lasuco) and the companies Idemitsu Kosan, Sagri (Japan) signed a cooperation agreement to implement the project of Reducing carbon emissions in the Lam Son sugarcane growing area (Thanh Hoa province).

This project is a pioneering initiative in implementing sustainable, regenerative agriculture in Viet Nam. This is also the first project in Vietn Nam to create carbon credits for improving agricultural land management.

According to the content of the agreement signed between the enterprises, in 2025, with the investment of Idemitsu Kosan Company, the project will conduct a pilot project on an area of 500 hectares of agricultural land operated by farmers with contracts with Lasuco to practice the model of environmental regenerative agriculture.

During the implementation process, the project will use Sagri's satellite analysis technology to monitor soil conditions and sugarcane growth, thereby optimizing the amount of fertilizer, type of fertilizer, and time of fertilizing sugarcane to reduce the amount of chemical fertilizer applied to the soil. This will reduce the amount of nitrous oxide emitted from nitrogen-containing fertilizers and enhance the ability to store carbon in the soil, contributing significantly to the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. After the pilot phase, if the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is significant enough, the project is expected to officially operate commercially from 2026, with the area expanded to 8,000 hectares. The carbon credits generated will be registered under the "Improving Agricultural Land Management" method (VM0042) of Verra - the world's largest voluntary carbon credit certification agency. If successful, this will be the first project in Vietnam to be registered under VM0042.
