A pilot educational tourism tour combining environmental education with hands-on learning has recently been organized at Kon Ka Kinh National Park for local students.

The Technical Assistance for Nature Conservation Project, implemented by the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) in partnership with Kon Ka Kinh National Park, recently piloted a school tourism program integrating environmental education. As part of the initiative, students from H’ra Secondary School (H’ra Commune) and Tran Hung Dao High School (Mang Yang Commune, Gia Lai Province) embarked on an enriching journey of discovery in Kon Ka Kinh National Park, often celebrated as the “green jewel” of Gia Lai.

For students from H’ra Secondary School, the highlight of the program was the activity “A Day as a Forest Ranger”, which allowed them to step into the role of forest rangers. Through a series of hands-on experiences, the students explored forest ecosystems, discovered local biodiversity, learned how to use maps and compasses, joined forest patrol activities, identified signs of human impacts on forest resources, and immersed themselves in the park’s majestic natural surroundings.

These practical experiences not only helped students gain a deeper understanding of biodiversity and the vital role forests play in human life, but also strengthened essential skills such as observation, teamwork, and appropriate behavior in natural environments. More importantly, the program fostered a greater sense of responsibility toward nature conservation.

The students also spent an enjoyable and memorable night experiencing life in the national park. Photo: Courtesy of the organizer.

Ngo Van Thang, Director of Kon Ka Kinh National Park, said: “In the coming period, the park will further adjust and refine the school tourism product before putting it into operation, targeting pupils and students from both within and outside the province, initially during the summer holiday of 2026. This is considered one of the unit’s regular activities”.

The Technical Assistance for Nature Conservation Project, implemented in Viet Nam by the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS), focuses on the management and protection of primary forest ecosystems and endangered flora and fauna species. The project currently concentrates its efforts in Central Viet Nam and the Central Highlands, particularly at Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve in Gia Lai Province.
