People’s Committee of Son Linh commune (Quang Ngai province) has joined forces with Madison Quakers, Inc. (MQI) to launch a project to drill 10 wells to provide domestic water for residents in mountainous communities.

The project was approved by the Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee under Decision No. 2107/QD-UBND. Under the arrangement, MQI will provide VND 1.2 billion in non-refundable aid. The project has a total budget of VND 1.32 billion, including VND 120 million in counterpart contributions from beneficiary communities in the form of locally available materials and labor.

Son Linh is a large commune with many mountainous residential areas, where residents continue to face significant livelihood challenges. In some areas, reliable access to domestic water remains a concern, particularly during the dry season.

According to the approved project documents, the 10 wells will serve 10 residential clusters, providing a more stable domestic water supply for approximately 393 households, with 1,120 people. The facilities are intended to provide hygienic water, reduce the risk of shortages during the dry season, and help improve living conditions and community health.

According to leaders of the Son Linh commune People’s Committee, investing in these water-supply facilities will bring practical benefits to residents, particularly households that face difficulties accessing clean water for daily use.

Once completed, the wells will reduce the time and effort residents spend finding and transporting water, making daily activities, hygiene and healthcare easier. They will also provide an important additional water source for residential areas frequently affected by dry-season shortages.

Under the Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee’s decision, the project will run from the date the competent authority approves acceptance of the aid through the end of November 2026. MQI will directly manage implementation and disbursement of the aid, while coordinating with the Son Linh Commune People’s Committee and relevant agencies.

The Son Linh commune People’s Committee will be responsible for receiving and managing the project and coordinating with the donor during implementation. Once the facilities are completed, the local authority will manage and operate them and encourage residents to protect and maintain the wells so they can serve the community over the long term.

These small-scale water-supply facilities, delivered directly to individual residential clusters, are expected to help meet immediate household water needs while improving living conditions in mountainous communities. They also represent a practical measure to support social welfare and adaptation to dry-season water shortages in rural areas.
