This was the focus of the working session held on May 21 between Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy and French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet.

At the meeting, both sides acknowledged the tangible results of their long-standing bilateral cooperation, especially as Vietnam–France relations have been elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Regarding agriculture and environmental sectors, the two sides have collaborated on numerous effective programs, notably in sustainable agriculture, circular agriculture adapted to climate change, and research on the macroeconomic and social impacts of climate change and energy transition. The Vietnam–France Agricultural Working Group is actively implementing key agreements from its first session, with many concrete and practical activities underway.

Ambassador Olivier Brochet emphasized France and Vietnam's shared vision, actions, and development strategies, particularly in climate change response, energy transition, and high-tech agricultural development. He hoped enterprises, corporations, and technical agencies from both sides would further expand cooperation in these key areas. He also called for stronger Vietnam–France collaboration in international forums to exchange experience, contribute ideas, and reinforce joint commitments to global challenges.

Minister Do Duc Duy stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the French Development Agency (AFD) are discussing signing a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in agriculture and the environment for the 2025–2030 period. Both sides also actively implement an action plan to materialize the signed agreements.

The Minister proposed that France support Vietnam in mobilizing funding for sustainable agriculture programs, advancing smart agriculture adapted to climate change, implementing riverbank and coastal protection measures, and ensuring water security.

Regarding climate change, Vietnam requested continued support from the French Government and AFD to effectively implement the GEMMES Vietnam Project, which studies the macroeconomic and social impacts of climate change and energy transition in Vietnam. Minister Duy also hoped Ambassador Brochet would help connect Vietnamese partners with relevant French agencies to expand bilateral cooperation in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening climate resilience.

Minister Duy expressed his hope that the French Agricultural Counselor would act as a bridge to help Vietnamese institutions access and apply advanced French training programs on education and training, especially in the training of agricultural engineers and college-level technicians.

“This cooperation will improve the quality of Vietnam’s agricultural workforce, meeting development needs in the current context,” the Minister emphasized.
