On May 14, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE), in collaboration with the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), organized a workshop titled “Scaling CGIAR Innovations through Strategic Partnerships.”
In his opening remarks, Dr. Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director General of the International Cooperation Department (under MAE), emphasized that 2025 marks a critical juncture for sustainable agricultural development. He also highlighted the achievements of the Asian Mega-Deltas (AMD) Initiative on safeguarding food systems in Asian delta regions. According to Mr. Tuan, climate change response requires strong collaboration and continuous innovation.

Photo: Quynh ChiDr. Bjoern Ole Sander, AMD Initiative Lead, shared that between 2021 and 2024, the initiative developed 85 innovations, organized over 200 capacity-building activities, reached more than 8 million farmers, and supported investments worth USD 1 billion in projects focused on emissions reduction and climate resilience across Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Myanmar, and Vietnam.
In Vietnam, the collaboration has contributed to scaling up the Digital Climate Advisory Services (DCAS), developing climate bulletins, and applying tools such as RiceMore and CS-MAP mapping systems in delta planning. The initiative supported policies, including Vietnam’s “Zero Hunger” program and Cambodia’s Food Security Strategy.
Ms. Caroline Beresford, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam, affirmed her country’s continued support for CGIAR in promoting innovative and sustainable agricultural initiatives, particularly to assist smallholder farmers and vulnerable communities.
