Hue City and UNDP continue to elevate their partnership in various fields, particularly in building a climate-resilient city.
The People's Committee of Hue City has just held a working session and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Viet Nam, opening a new phase of cooperation in governance, digital transformation, innovation, sustainable development, and climate change adaptation.
In the 2020-2025 period, Hue City and UNDP implemented numerous cooperative programs on climate change adaptation, environmental protection, circular economy, digital governance, mine action, and improving access to essential services.
Many cooperative results have materialized in practice. The two sides have supported the construction of 526 disaster-resilient houses for vulnerable households; cleared and released land areas suspected of explosive ordnance contamination, facilitating land use and supporting residents' livelihoods. In the environmental sector, 22 hectares of mangroves were restored, contributing to coastal ecosystem protection and enhancing the community's resilience.

Photo: Van Dinh.Building on the achieved results, the MoU for the next five years identifies 7 priority areas, focusing on 3 pillars: inclusive and people-centered governance; digital transformation and innovation; and enhancing resilience to climate change, sustainable development, and ensuring human security.
Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Tri Thanh stated that Hue is facing many development opportunities but is also suffering increasingly evident impacts of natural disasters and extreme weather, which affect residents' lives, investment activities, and heritage conservation efforts.
Mr. Thanh hopes UNDP will continue elevating the partnership, particularly in smart urban governance and building a climate-resilient city; and support the city in enhancing governance capacity, effectively exploiting new technologies and proactively forecasting and identifying future development challenges.
Regarding climate change adaptation, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested strengthening cooperation in coastal, lagoon, river basin, rural, and mountainous areas; enhancing community resilience; and continuing to support mine clearance, especially in densely populated, rural, and mountainous areas, thereby ensuring safety for residents and creating land funds for development.
In addition, Hue City aims to promote green and circular economy development coupled with environmental protection and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for residents.
