The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hue city, in collaboration with the Environment Department of Shizuoka city (Japan) held a technical workshop to promote carbon neutrality in Hue.
The workshop was part of the cooperation programme between the two cities. It provided an opportunity for government agencies, organisations and businesses from both sides to exchange information and share Japanese companies’ technologies and solutions for mitigating climate change. The discussions focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting green, sustainable development.

The city is increasingly affected by climate change, with rising temperatures, heavy rainfall, storms, tropical depressions and erosion along riverbanks and coastlines.
These challenges are placing greater demands on environmental management and protection, climate change response and efforts to pursue greener, more sustainable development.
Hue has introduced an action plan on climate change response through 2030, with a vision to 2050. The city is also incorporating relevant measures into its plans in line with national climate strategies and the Paris Agreement.
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Hue is gradually introducing measures across several sectors, including energy, transport, construction, waste management and tourism. However, achieving net-zero emissions will require more than government action. The city also needs support from experts, organisations and businesses.
“Shizuoka has carried out a range of practical initiatives to promote the green transition and reduce carbon emissions. Its experience offers valuable lessons for Hue to learn from and explore how best to apply them in line with local conditions”, Mr Cuong said.
“Through this workshop, experts, delegates and businesses from both cities can exchange information, share experience and discuss technical solutions to cut emissions and advance carbon neutrality,” he added.
