KAO’s participation in PSAV and signing MoU will help translate technological initiatives into concrete actions to promote sustainable agriculture.

Marking the 30th anniversary of its operations in Viet Nam, Kao Viet Nam announced initiatives to support sustainable agricultural development, drawing on its technological capabilities and expertise in developing chemical-based solutions.

The initiatives aim to improve agricultural production efficiency in a more sustainable way, in cooperation with the Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture in Viet Nam (PSAV) and other stakeholders.

Leveraging strengths in science, technology and chemicals

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep said KAO has strengths in science, technology and chemicals, while pursuing goals related to sustainable development, efficient resource use, emissions and waste reduction, and chemical management. These orientations are closely aligned with Viet Nam’s goals of green transition and sustainable agricultural development.

The Deputy Minister encouraged KAO to focus on three areas: science, technology and green production; innovation and enhancing the value of agricultural products; and strengthening linkages and public-private partnerships. Looking ahead, KAO Viet Nam plans to further expand the areas where the company can contribute, with a focus on sustainable growth and advancing sustainable agriculture.

Drawing on decades of research and expertise in surface optimization technology, KAO has developed a method to control the interaction between liquids and solid surfaces to improve the efficiency of pesticide application.

The technology focuses on the interaction between spray droplets and plant leaf surfaces, which are highly water-repellent, thereby improving the wetting, coverage and penetration of agricultural chemicals. This can help reduce the amount of pesticides required while maintaining effectiveness, while also enhancing safety and optimizing input costs for the agricultural sector.

Given the diversity of crops and changes in farming practices in Viet Nam, KAO aims to leverage its technological strengths and expertise in chemicals to develop solutions suited to local conditions and improve productivity.

Expanding the model through a partner network

To apply these technologies to agricultural practices in Viet Nam, KAO Viet Nam is working with PSAV to explore opportunities for jointly developing solutions and sharing knowledge and experience in agriculture.

At the launch event in Hanoi, KAO Viet Nam and PSAV also announced their intention to establish a framework for cooperation in the coming period. This is part of KAO Viet Nam’s efforts to contribute to Vietnamese society and work with partners to address social and environmental challenges through technology, expertise and collaboration.

Mr. Shintaro Yasue, General Director of KAO Viet Nam, said: “Sustainable agriculture is one of KAO Viet Nam’s visions. By combining KAO’s technology and expertise with the knowledge, experience and perspectives of our partners, we seek to address the challenges facing the agricultural sector and create greater value for society.”

Through its cooperation with PSAV, KAO Viet Nam aims to combine KAO’s technological capabilities with local agricultural knowledge and practical experience to jointly identify suitable solutions, contributing to the long-term development of sustainable agriculture in Viet Nam.

According to Nguyễn Đỗ Anh Tuấn, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation and Director of the PSAV Permanent Secretariat, PSAV is a public-private partnership platform of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, aimed at connecting stakeholders across value chains, jointly identifying priority issues, mobilizing resources and promoting cooperation initiatives that respond to practical needs. These activities contribute to PSAV’s 20-20-20 targets: increasing productivity by 20%, reducing poverty by 20% and cutting emissions by 20%.

The event reaffirmed the shared direction of the PPP Task Force and multi-stakeholder cooperation activities, encouraging the application of science and technology, enhancing production capacity and strengthening value chain linkages. Photo: Kieu Chi.

KAO Viet Nam and PSAV will jointly explore opportunities to connect KAO’s technology and expertise with the practical needs of Viet Nam’s agricultural sector. The two sides will also expand exchanges with relevant stakeholders to explore and propose new approaches that improve farming efficiency and support the sector's sustainable development.
