Vietnam and the US cooperate on sustainable aquaculture and exploitation

On the afternoon of October 13, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Fisheries Association (VINAFIS) signed a cooperation agreement with the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC).

The cooperation aims to promote sustainable fisheries and aquaculture activities in Vietnam through technical training, knowledge exchange and industry information sharing.

The two sides will cooperate in supporting the adoption of international sustainability certifications, including initiatives aligned with the U.S. Soy Sustainability Assurance Protocol (SSAP); Encourage the use of U.S. soybean ingredients in aquafeeds where possible, to improve feed quality, environmental responsibility, and industry competitiveness; Expand research collaboration, outreach, and market access in the aquaculture and fisheries sectors; Co-host or support industry events, conferences, and workshops to promote mutual interests and enhance long-term cooperation.

In addition, within the framework of the 1st Vietnam International Exhibition on Aquaculture Science and Technology - VINAFIS EXPO 2026, the two sides will cooperate to organize an international conference on aquatic nutrition. USSEC will mobilize the participation of the world's leading experts on nutrition in the USSEC system so that the conference is truly "significant" and "valuable" for the farming community, businesses as well as research units of Vietnam and countries in the region.

Mr. Timothy Loh, Director of Southeast Asia, US Soybean Export Council (USSEC) shared: "During our operations, we are honored to cooperate with many different partners. In particular, cooperation with the Vietnamese seafood industry has always been an important part of USSEC's strategy."

“All cooperation activities between the two sides are aimed at the common goal of promoting the sustainable development of Vietnam’s seafood industry, while enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese products in the international market. Therefore, today’s signing ceremony is extremely important and practical,” Mr. Timothy Loh emphasized.
