The agricultural traceability system has now connected 24/34 provinces and cities, with 814,000 products registered for traceability.
More than 2 months after official launch, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment’s agricultural traceability system has begun connecting with local authorities, businesses and technology providers, laying a foundation for managing and tracing agricultural products.

At a press briefing held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on September 16, Nguyen Quang Tin, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, said the ministry officially launched its agricultural traceability system on June 30, 2026.
The system now connects 10 technology solution providers, four agricultural production and trading businesses, and five provinces and cities.
Since its launch, more than 309,000 products from 211 farming households and 25 businesses in 17 provinces and cities have been registered. Of these, 428 products from 32 farming households and 11 businesses in nine provinces and cities have been traced.
Since January 2026, when the Minister issued Decision No. 25 on developing the system, around 814,000 products from 3,000 farming households and 207 businesses across 24/34 provinces and cities have been registered.
Of these, 158,000 products from 48 farming households and 20 businesses in 14 provinces and cities have been traced.
The ministry is continuing to standardize data, improve connection standards, expand applications and work with local authorities and businesses to connect existing databases with the ministry’s system.
The ministry has deployed 40 servers for system development and testing. Two traceability platforms have been built: the ministry’s traceability system and a platform for individuals and businesses to register, search and trace products. Both have undergone security assessments before being put into operation.
A smartphone application is also being developed to support system access and searches, with direct data entry planned for mobile devices.
The Department of Digital Transformation released Version 1.0 of the connection process on June 20. Further versions are being developed to meet the connection needs of local authorities and businesses.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is also working to connect the system with national platforms and information portals. The ministry has coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Science and Technology on technical integration.
The Ministry of Public Security is developing a system for tracing products and goods, including agricultural, forestry and fishery products. Connecting these platforms will enable data interoperability and sharing, while preparing the system for integration with national platforms as they are rolled out.
On September 4, 2026, the Government Office issued Notice No. 8998 conveying Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung’s direction, tasking the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment with guiding ministries, agencies and localities to share data for agricultural traceability and connect with the ministry’s system by the end of September 2026.
The ministry said the task is challenging and must be completed within a short timeframe amid various obstacles. It will therefore continue to strengthen the legal framework, technical infrastructure and guidance for local authorities and businesses.

Photo: Department of Science and Technology.A key task is to develop a circular providing a common basis for connecting product groups in agriculture, forestry, fisheries and other specialized sectors. This work must align with regulations on identification, authentication and traceability being developed by the Ministry of Public Security to establish a unified legal basis for data sharing.
The ministry is also improving the traceability system, standardizing data and connection and operational procedures with specialized departments. Specific procedures will be developed for each product group to support businesses and farmers while enabling both forward and backward traceability.
The system will be upgraded from Version 1.0 to Version 2.0 and subsequent versions. The ministry will also guide local authorities and businesses in connecting their data and existing systems to the national platform.
A unified traceability system will link data among regulators, local authorities and businesses, improve product information management and support state management and traceability requirements in agricultural production and trade.
