Speaking at the 47th ASEAN Agriculture and Forestry Ministers Meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri urged stronger regional collaboration in climate-smart and digital agriculture to enhance resilience, innovation, and sustainable food systems.
On October 1, the 47th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF) took place in Pasay City, the Philippines, under the chairmanship of the host country.
At the session presenting the Report and Recommendations of the Special Senior Officials Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry (SOM-AMAF), Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Nguyen Quoc Tri, highly commended the comprehensive report delivered by the SOM-AMAF Chair and the ASEAN Secretariat on the progress of cooperation for 2024–2025, as well as the key documents discussed, agreed upon, and submitted to this ministerial meeting.
The Deputy Minister noted that this cooperation has contributed significantly to sustainable agricultural development, food security, and food safety across the ASEAN region, with Vietnam always participating actively and responsibly.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Quoc Tri delivers remarks at the session presenting the Report and Recommendations of the Special Senior Officials Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry (SOM-AMAF) to the 47th ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF) Meeting.Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri announced that the meeting had adopted three key documents: the ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on Food, Agriculture and Forestry Vision 2045, the ASEAN Cooperation Framework on Food, Agriculture and Forestry 2045, and the Sectoral Plan of Action 2026–2030. He emphasized that these documents provide clear strategic directions, laying the groundwork for deeper and broader cooperation among ASEAN member states as well as with international partners.
Vietnam also expressed support for two flagship initiatives proposed during the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairmanship in 2026: the ASEAN Framework on Regenerative and Climate-Resilient Agriculture Systems and the ASEAN One Billion Trees Planting Program.
Amid multiple regional and global challenges such as climate change, natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and geopolitical instability, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri called on ASEAN to strengthen technical cooperation, promote climate-smart and digital agriculture, foster innovation, advance sustainable agri-food value chains, and enhance capacity building and experience sharing across the sector.
“Vietnam reaffirms its commitment to continuing active, proactive, and responsible participation, making concrete contributions to the shared development of the ASEAN Economic Community for a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future. I firmly believe that ASEAN cooperation will generate new momentum and opportunities toward a sustainable, adaptive, and low-emission agriculture that ensures food security for the whole region,” the Deputy Minister affirmed.
Vietnam also endorsed the Report and Recommendations of the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry to be submitted to the 47th AMAF.
During the 47th AMAF, ministers adopted the ASEAN Vision on Food, Agriculture and Forestry 2045 and its Cooperation Framework, defining a long-term orientation for strengthening the regional food system, ensuring food and nutrition security, promoting sustainable forest management, and improving climate resilience.
The meeting also approved the ASEAN Sectoral Plan of Action on Food, Agriculture and Forestry 2026–2030, which serves as a medium-term plan to realize the 2045 Vision.
The ministers welcomed the ASEAN One Billion Trees Initiative, recognizing it as an important contribution to forest conservation, climate adaptation, and community empowerment. Member states were encouraged to develop national action plans and enhance monitoring and reporting systems to track progress.
