Vietnam’s sturgeon output grew at an average rate of more than 49% per year between 2007 and 2023, placing the country among the world’s six largest sturgeon producers.

The expansion of cold-water fish farming has opened a new direction for Vietnam’s aquaculture sector. It has tapped into the potential of cold-water resources, supported infrastructure development, created jobs, raised household incomes, improved living standards, and contributed to national security and defense in remote and border areas.

As Vietnam deepens its global integration, the cold-water fish industry is urged to adopt advanced, industrial-scale production processes and technologies tailored to local ecological conditions. This will help improve survival rates, boost efficiency, conserve water resources, protect ecosystems, and ensure product traceability.

At the same time, production models need to be diversified, with enterprises taking the lead. Stronger partnerships between companies and local households are encouraged to link production with markets, ensure quality transparency, reduce costs, increase competitiveness, and enhance the brand value of Vietnam’s cold-water fish.
