Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment has recently granted an export permit for potato seeds to India for research purposes.
According to a plant variety export permit issued by the Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Potato, Vegetable and Flower Research Center has been authorized to export 27,952 potato seeds (Solanum tuberosum) representing 23 different breeding lines to India. The shipment includes between 60 and 3,936 seeds for each breeding line.
According to the Viet Nam Organic Agriculture Magazine, the entire seed shipment is intended for research purposes. The export will be carried out through Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The permit is valid only for the approved shipment and remains effective for 12 months from the date of issuance.

By testing and evaluating the adaptability of breeding lines under different ecological conditions, researchers can generate valuable data to support the development of improved varieties with higher yields, better quality, and greater resilience to climate change and pests.
Potatoes are among the world's most economically important crops. In Viet Nam, particularly in Lam Dong Province, research, variety development, and germplasm exchange are essential to improving production efficiency and advancing a modern, sustainable agricultural sector that meets increasingly demanding market requirements.
According to the export permit, the potato breeding lines covered by this shipment are exempt from state quality inspection. However, all plant materials may be used solely for research purposes and must not cause adverse impacts on the environment, including soil, water resources, other living organisms, or human health if used improperly.
The Potato, Vegetable and Flower Research Center, under the Institute of Agricultural Science for Southern Viet Nam, bears full legal responsibility for the management and use of the exported plant materials.
The authorized institution must comply with the Law on Plant Protection and Quarantine and all other relevant legal regulations throughout the export process. Upon completion of the shipment, it is required to report the export results and the use of the plant materials to the Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment through the provincial Sub-Department of Plant Production and Protection in accordance with current regulations.
