The Hue City People's Committee recently met with a working delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to prepare for the Hue City Water Environment Improvement Project - Phase 2.
According to the orientation, the project is named the Hue City Water Environment Improvement Project, Phase 2 - Priority Area. The Hue City People's Committee is the investment governing body, and the Japanese Government (through JICA) is the sponsor.
The project is planned to be implemented in Phu Xuan, Kim Long, Hoa Chau and Huong An wards, covering a total area of about 934 hectares. This area plays a crucial role in the city's northern urban space and is intrinsically linked to the system of rivers, lakes, waterways, and relic structures within the Hue Citadel area.

Photo: Van Dinh.Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, Standing Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, stated that one of the key components of Phase 2 is the synchronous investment in the drainage, wastewater collection, and treatment system in the northern part of the city.
The project is expected to build a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters per day and night, featuring a standby expansion capacity of up to 50,000 cubic meters per day and night, along with a pumping station system and a wastewater collection network.
"Investing in a centralized wastewater treatment system is expected to help enhance urban wastewater collection and treatment capacity, minimize direct discharge into the environment, and gradually improve water source quality and environmental sanitation conditions, thereby elevating the residents' quality of life", Mr. Minh shared.
Besides drainage and wastewater treatment items, Phase 2 plans to implement solutions to improve the waterway system and relic lakes within the Hue Citadel area. These items are oriented toward combining water quality improvement, enhancing drainage capacity, and beautifying the environmental landscape, contributing to the protection and promotion of heritage space values.

Photo: Van Dinh.The project also plans to invest in infrastructure that enhances flood drainage capacity, minimizes inundation, protects flood drainage corridors, and strengthens climate change adaptation capabilities.
The preparation and implementation of the Hue City Water Environment Improvement Project - Phase 2 are expected to further improve the urban environmental infrastructure system, enhance water quality, and increase resilience to natural disasters, flooding, and climate change. At the same time, it will help build Hue into a green, sustainable city with a high-quality living environment that harmonizes with its heritage spaces.
The project has an estimated total investment of over 27,255 million Japanese Yen, equivalent to about 4,279 billion VND. Of this, the Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan is estimated at 22,437.11 million Japanese Yen (about 3,522 billion Vietnamese Dong), and the counterpart capital is approximately 4,818.03 million Japanese Yen (equivalent to 756.4 billion Vietnamese Dong). The project implementation period is scheduled for 2027 to 2032.
