Partnering with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Hoa Chau ward is steadily enhancing its disaster prevention and climate change adaptation capacities.
Hoa Chau ward (Hue City) is implementing the project "Strengthening Urban Climate Resilience and Adaptation in Central Viet Nam".
Funded by Catholic Relief Services (CRS, USA), the project is being deployed in Hoa Chau ward over four years, divided into two phases. Phase 1 runs from May to September 2026, while Phase 2 is expected to roll out from the fourth quarter of 2026 to September 2029.
The project aims to support the deployment of a multi-hazard early warning system; review and update community-based disaster risk management guidelines; survey financial resources for disaster risk management; and organize training courses on community-based disaster risk management for relevant stakeholders. In addition, the project will assist residents in the low-lying areas of Hoa Chau ward in building and repairing houses to meet flood and storm response requirements.

The CRS delegation directly inspected the operation of the hydro-meteorological monitoring equipment system and water level gauges in the area. Additionally, the group surveyed typical tourist spots to research sustainable ecotourism development solutions, closely linked to enhancing the local community's disaster resilience.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Hoa Chau Ward People's Committee, said the construction and repair of safe housing are on schedule, meeting quality and technical standards to help residents stabilize their lives before the stormy season.
In addition to discussing practical difficulties and obstacles and identifying demand gaps in urban disaster management, the Hoa Chau Ward People's Committee proactively proposed that the CRS working group consider providing additional specialized disaster prevention equipment and supplies for local shock-force teams. This aims to enhance the "4 on-the-spot" response capacity and serve as a basis for more effective cooperation in the next phase.
According to Hoa Chau ward leaders, coordination between CRS and the ward continues to strengthen cooperation with international organizations, helping improve the area's capacity to proactively respond to climate change in the coming period.
