Viet Nam, Australia expand rice value chain investment

Recently, the Minister of Finance worked with SunRice Group to promote investment expansion and develop the rice value chain in the Mekong Delta.

According to information from the Ministry of Finance, within the framework of the State visit to Australia from August 9-12 by General Secretary and President To Lam, on the afternoon of August 10 in Sydney (Australia), authorized by General Secretary and President To Lam, Minister of Finance Ngo Van Tuan had important working sessions with the CEO of SunRice Group and leaders of RMIT University.

At the working session with the leaders of SunRice Group, led by Mr. Paul Serra, CEO of SunRice Group, the two sides discussed SunRice's activities in Viet Nam, investment expansion orientations, and opportunities for cooperation in developing a sustainable rice value chain in the Mekong Delta, VietnamPlus e-newspaper reported.

Minister Ngo Van Tuan acknowledged SunRice's activities and long-term commitment in Viet Nam; concurrently, he welcomed the Group to continue studying investment expansion, strengthening linkages with Vietnamese farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises, and developing processing, storage, traceability, and adding value to Vietnamese rice products.

The Minister of Finance emphasized that Viet Nam is promoting the development of a modern, green, circular, and low-emission agriculture; in which, the Mekong Delta plays a particularly important role. Viet Nam encourages SunRice to strengthen cooperation in areas such as high-quality, low-emission rice production; the application of science, technology, and digital transformation; deep processing; research, technology transfer, and utilizing agricultural by-products towards a circular economy.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the two sides agreed to continue promoting practical, long-term, and replicable cooperation programs, thereby both enhancing the value and competitiveness of Viet Nam's rice industry and contributing to consolidating Viet Nam - Australia cooperation in agriculture, science and technology, green development, and food security.

SunRice is Australia's leading rice food enterprise, possessing strengths in organizing value chains, quality management, traceability, brand development, and international market connection. The Group began purchasing rice from Viet Nam in 2012 and currently has processing operations in Dong Thap; simultaneously, it cooperates with farmers, research institutions, and domestic partners to improve the quality and sustainability of the rice chain.
