About 70 delegates updated EUDR rules, discussing traceability solutions and data management for coffee and rubber planting areas.

On August 11, the Dien Bien Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the Northern Cultivation and Plant Protection Center to organize a workshop to disseminate and raise awareness about the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) for the coffee and rubber sectors.

Ms. Chu Thi Thanh Xuan, Deputy Director of the Dien Bien Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized that the implementation of EUDR needs to focus on traceability, the collection of geographical coordinates of planting areas, and data standardization. She requested that localities coordinate to build a planting area database and manage planting area codes. Enterprises and cooperatives need to strengthen linkages, support the establishment of raw material areas, and implement traceability measures.

According to the program, the workshop focused on updating the implementation progress of the provincial-level EUDR Adaptation Action Plan. Delegates discussed the roles and responsibilities of the public and private sectors in managing, using, sharing, and updating planting area data. The planting area database system, traceability, and enterprises' data needs were also discussed.

Dien Bien currently has about 19,576.7 hectares of coffee and 5,019 hectares of rubber. Dien Bien province identifies the development of concentrated raw material areas linked to processing, consumption, and export as a key task. By 2030, Dien Bien strives to develop over 20,000 hectares of coffee, forming raw material areas associated with deep processing, consumption and export.

Building raw material areas that meet EUDR requirements will contribute to enhancing the ability to maintain the export market to the European Union, while elevating the quality and brand of Dien Bien coffee. Concurrently, it contributes to improving product quality, building the Dien Bien coffee brand, and expanding markets.
