Dak Lak collaborates with South Korea to build an urban wastewater management system

According to the MoU, the South Korean side will provide a non-refundable ODA of USD 9.2 million, while the Vietnamese government will contribute USD 760,000 in counterpart funding to implement the project. The system is designed to have a capacity of 1,900 cubic meters per day, serving approximately 2,900 households directly. The project includes a wastewater treatment plant, a sanitation sewer system, pumping stations, manholes, and connection lines to individual households.

In addition to funding the construction, KOICA will play a critical role in knowledge transfer. The organization will send experts to Vietnam to design, supervise construction, and provide direct assistance with training for technical staff in Dak Lak Province. Locals will also have the opportunity to study and enhance their capabilities in South Korea, a country with extensive experience in urban wastewater management.

Mr. Lee Byung Hwa, KOICA Country Director in Vietnam, is confident that the project will improve the living environment, protect water resources, and promote sustainable urban development. Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Thien Van, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak Lak Province, affirmed that the local authorities are committed to working closely with KOICA to ensure the project is implemented on time, for its intended purpose, and delivers tangible benefits to the people.

The event underscores Dak Lak's priority in building green environmental infrastructure, while also opening up broader opportunities for cooperation between Vietnam and South Korea in sustainable development. Dak Lak Province is committed to working closely with KOICA Vietnam to ensure the project is implemented on time, with quality and effectiveness, following current regulations and the terms of reference agreed upon by both parties.
