Growing demand for advanced waste, wastewater, and emission treatment technologies creates vast opportunities for partnership between Vietnamese and Chinese environmental enterprises.
This was a key topic at a cooperation and exchange program between the Viet Nam Environmental Industry Association and the China Association of Environmental Protection, held on the afternoon of September 17 in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Dr. Tran Van Luong, Chairman of the Viet Nam Environmental Industry Association, promoting the development of environmental treatment technologies is one of the key issues for the growth of the environmental industry.

Photo: Ha Duyen.From the perspective of Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Hong Nguyen, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said that connecting with international partners could create more opportunities to access environmental treatment technologies and equipment at more affordable costs.
The areas under discussion include wastewater, air emissions and waste treatment. In particular, Ho Chi Minh City is paying close attention to solutions for treating waste generated from waste-to-energy incineration.
The city aims to process around 15,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day using waste-to-energy incineration technology by 2030. However, the expected generation of more than 500 tonnes of fly ash per day also creates a need for appropriate end-of-life treatment technologies. This waste is currently being landfilled.
According to Nguyen Hong Nguyen, the issue requires further research to ensure environmental safety while reducing pressure on land resources. The Vietnamese side also hopes to learn from China’s experience, as the country adopted waste-to-energy incineration technology at an early stage.

Some Chinese technologies have already been deployed in Southeast Asian countries.
Based on Viet Nam’s practical needs and China’s technological experience, the two sides are expected to continue technical exchanges, consolidate demand and connect businesses to identify specific areas and projects with potential for cooperation.
