The green shift is no longer just a trend but a pressing requirement. Vietnamese businesses are entering a crucial transformation phase, adopting comprehensive solutions spanning policy, science and technology, international cooperation, and supply chain greening.

Emissions data as a strategic asset

In 2025, greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories will become mandatory for many large enterprises in Vietnam. This shift is not merely administrative; it marks a fundamental change in how businesses approach the market — from intuition-based decisions to those driven by transparency and data. In this context, businesses must not only perform well, but be able to prove they are doing so.

This evolution is redefining the concept of corporate value. Emissions data — if properly measured, monitored, and recorded — can become an "intangible asset." Beyond compliance with domestic regulations, emissions data is now a passport for companies to join international supply chains, access demanding export markets, and attract the growing pool of green finance from global funds and financial institutions.

Digital transformation plays a critical role in this process. With the help of technology, companies can regularly monitor emissions and adjust production to save energy and reduce their carbon footprint. Investing in data helps manage environmental risks, improves production efficiency, and enhances brand reputation among partners and consumers.

As Vietnam plans to pilot its domestic carbon credit market starting in 2027, accurate emissions data will form the basis for businesses to participate in carbon trading. Every ton of CO₂ reduced can be converted into credits — a potential new revenue stream. Shortly, this will become a key factor for competition among companies within the same industry.

Meaningful action

The “Journey to Net Zero” program has been launched in collaboration with various ministries, technology experts, and international organizations to support this transformation. More than just a communication campaign, this technical support ecosystem brings together government bodies, research institutes, experts, and global partners. The goal is to help businesses — particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) — more easily access guidance, tools, and policies for effective emissions measurement, management, and reduction, aligned with global trends.

Dr. Hoang Hiep, Director of the Institute for Green Growth Research, emphasized that the journey to Net Zero cannot be a solo effort. Every company must develop its system for emissions tracking and transparency to survive and thrive in the modern business landscape.

At the P4G Summit held in Hanoi, international organizations such as UNDP, GIZ, and JICA reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Vietnam with technical assistance, data sharing, and capacity building for emissions governance.

Greening the supply chain

In line with this momentum, the highlight of the Green Trade Forum 2025 held in Ho Chi Minh City on July 1 was the launch of Vietnam’s first green B2B e-commerce platform — EcoHub (ecohub.arobid.com) — along with the 3D digital exhibition EcoHub XPO, themed “No-Carbon City.” The event occurred as the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) entered its initial phase, requiring exporters to the EU to disclose emissions data transparently.

EcoHub is designed to help businesses — especially SMEs — overcome green transition barriers. It offers tools for emissions measurement, transparent data disclosure, connections with technology partners, and access to high-standard markets like the EU, the U.S., and Japan.

Creating a green B2B trading platform lays a critical foundation for Vietnamese businesses to green their supply chains with greater ease and broader connectivity. It also provides a competitive edge in the global supply chain, especially in low-carbon and green growth-oriented development.
