E-commerce is expanding market access for Vinh Long’s agricultural products and modernizing trade promotion, though challenges remain in logistics, digital workforce capacity, and online business capabilities.

Amid rapid digital transformation, e-commerce is increasingly asserting its pivotal role in economic development and in reshaping trade promotion methods. Its adoption enables businesses to broaden market reach, reduce transaction costs, enhance competitiveness, and gradually advance the local digital economy.

For Vinh Long province, home to a wide range of distinctive agricultural products, OCOP (One Commune One Product) goods, and notable rural industrial products, e-commerce is proving to be an effective solution for connecting local products with broader markets. Through e-commerce platforms and social media, enterprises, cooperatives, and household businesses can promote their products to consumers nationwide without geographic constraints.

Beyond expanding sales channels, e-commerce is also transforming trade promotion toward more modern and flexible approaches. Activities such as building digital storefronts, listing products on online marketplaces, livestream selling, and advertising on social media are becoming effective tools that enable businesses to reach customers quickly and increase engagement.

However, for e-commerce to realize its full potential in trade promotion, raising awareness and strengthening digital capabilities among businesses and citizens is essential. In practice, many small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperatives, and household businesses in the province still face difficulties in accessing and effectively using digital business tools. As a result, training programs on e-commerce, guidance on building online stores, multi-channel sales skills, livestream selling, and social media marketing are critically needed.

At the same time, state management of e-commerce must be strengthened to ensure a healthy and transparent business environment. As the sector grows rapidly, regulatory authorities need to focus on monitoring online commercial activities, protecting consumer rights, and preventing fraud and counterfeit goods in digital spaces. Building a safe and transparent e-commerce environment will help foster trust among businesses and consumers engaging in online transactions.

At the recent workshop titled “E-commerce Development – Promoting Investment and Supporting Local Enterprises,” Tran Quoc Tuan, Director of the Vinh Long Department of Industry and Trade, noted that the province’s e-commerce sector has made encouraging progress in recent years, particularly in agricultural consumption. Many local specialties, such as green-skinned pomelo, oranges, coconuts, sweet potatoes, ceramics, and traditional handicrafts, have been listed on major platforms including Shopee, TikTok Shop, and Sendo, helping to expand markets and enhance product value.

However, to further accelerate e-commerce development, the province must address key bottlenecks, including underdeveloped logistics infrastructure, a shortage of digital human resources, and relatively weak online business management capacity among enterprises. “Even high-quality products will remain confined to local markets if they are not brought onto digital platforms and effectively promoted,” Tran Quoc Tuan emphasized.

Looking ahead, Vinh Long plans to continue implementing a range of measures to promote e-commerce in tandem with digital transformation in the industry and trade sector. These include organizing training programs, supporting businesses in joining e-commerce platforms, developing digital storefronts, and applying online sales tools. Such efforts are expected to expand market access, enhance the value of local goods, and contribute to the province’s digital economic growth.

It can be affirmed that in this new phase of development, e-commerce is not only a modern business model but also a key driver of innovation in trade promotion, helping to strengthen business competitiveness and support sustainable socio-economic development.
