On November 18, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Viet Nam, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the DEEP C Industrial Zones Consortium jointly held a launching ceremony for the Pilot Project on Industrial Wastewater Reuse at DEEP C Hai Phong 2 Industrial Zone. The initiative is part of the Accelerating Circular Economy for Businesses (ACE-Biz) project.
The project aims to promote resource exchange based on circular economy principles, contributing to sustainable development and emission reduction in Viet Nam. It marks an important milestone in cooperation among regulatory agencies, development partners, and businesses to build a closed-loop circular model for industrial wastewater treatment and reuse.
The pilot applies Nano membrane technology combined with Reverse Osmosis (RO) at a minimum capacity of 1 cubic meter per hour. It will be implemented using four technological schemes for wastewater treatment, integrated with pre-treatment at the centralized wastewater treatment plant of DEEP C Hai Phong 1 Industrial Zone.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Viet Nam, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the DEEP C Industrial Zones Consortium jointly held a launching ceremony for the Pilot Project on Industrial Wastewater Reuse at DEEP C Hai Phong 2 Industrial Zone.Francesca Nardini, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Viet Nam, stated that piloting wastewater reuse technology through four treatment schemes will allow DEEP C to verify technological feasibility and treatment costs based on evidence.
The pilot project is expected to support the development of an industrial symbiosis model - a key requirement of eco-industrial parks. It will also help strengthen water security, reduce environmental impacts, and enhance competitiveness in terms of sustainability.
Fleur Gribnau, Deputy Head of the Economic Section at the Embassy of the Netherlands, noted that the pilot model for wastewater treatment and reuse clearly demonstrates the strength of multilateral partnership. The Netherlands, a global leader in water innovation, brings expertise and strategic support; UNDP provides knowledge coordination, policy support, and technology transfer; and Vietnamese agencies and enterprises play a central role in implementation. This collaborative approach helps drive meaningful and sustainable change.
DEEP C Industrial Zones were selected as the pilot site to reflect the consortium’s pioneering role in developing eco-industrial models. Beyond providing infrastructure and operational conditions, DEEP C serves as an open platform for testing and demonstrating new technological solutions, advancing breakthrough environmental initiatives.
As part of the event, a Training Session on Water Management and Wastewater Reuse for enterprises was also held, featuring professors and experts from the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (Hanoi University of Civil Engineering) and Saxion University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands).
