Two countries should establish mechanisms for exchanging information on new economic and trade policies and regulations.

On August 24, General Secretary and President To Lam received Patrick Achi, President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, and a high-level delegation from the Ivorian National Assembly, who are on an official visit to Viet Nam from August 23 to 26.

This is the first visit to Viet Nam by the head of the legislative body of an African country since the beginning of the 16th-tenure National Assembly.

General Secretary and President To Lam conveyed his greetings and invitation to Alassane Ouattara, President of Côte d’Ivoire and President of the Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), to visit Viet Nam. He also congratulated the Ivorian State and people on their achievements in socio-economic development, improving people's livelihoods and enhancing the country's international role and standing, including the important contributions of the National Assembly.

Highly appreciating the positive development of Viet Nam–Côte d’Ivoire relations in recent years, which made Côte d’Ivoire Viet Nam’s largest trading partner in Africa in 2025, General Secretary and President To Lam said the two countries should strengthen cooperation and diversify import-export products beyond traditional commodities such as raw cashew nuts and rice, while seeking solutions to balance bilateral trade. The two National Assemblies should also consider establishing mechanisms for regular information exchange on new policies and regulations in the areas of economy, trade and investment.

General Secretary and President To Lam also called on Côte d’Ivoire to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese investors, particularly in areas where Viet Nam has strengths, including agriculture, agro-processing, mineral extraction and processing, telecommunications, oil and gas, digital transformation, cybersecurity, civil infrastructure, seaports, urban development and electric vehicles.

President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire Patrick Achi expressed his appreciation for the warm and cordial reception extended by the Party, State and people of Viet Nam to the delegation. He conveyed the greetings of Ivorian President and RHDP President Alassane Ouattara to General Secretary and President To Lam.

Patrick Achi expressed his hope that the two National Assemblies would become a regular forum for dialogue, mutual learning and cooperation in areas including agriculture, processing and manufacturing, digital transformation, private investment, human resource development and mobilization of development finance.

On the occasion, National Assembly President Patrick Achi conveyed an invitation from President Alassane Ouattara for General Secretary and President To Lam to pay an official visit to Côte d’Ivoire at an early opportunity. General Secretary and President To Lam asked the foreign ministries of the two countries to discuss and agree on a suitable time for the visit.
