Launching Initiatives to empower Vietnamese women in disaster risk reduction and environmental protection

Nearly 1 Million Euros to Support Central Viet Nam  Women in Green Economy Adoption

The project will focus on capacity-building programs to equip women with knowledge and skills in green and circular economy practices. Additionally, it will provide training on community-driven development, enabling participants to leverage local resources for sustainable growth. To enhance learning and exposure, the project will organize domestic and international study tours and engage national and international experts to offer guidance and support throughout its implementation.

The main activities of this project include capacity-building programs to enhance women's knowledge of the green and circular economy, training on community-driven development methods, organizing domestic and international study tours, and engaging national and international experts to provide guidance and support for women throughout the project's implementation. The project aims to ensure that 70% of residents in Hoa Bac Commune and Tho Quang Ward develop an understanding of green and circular economic practices. Additionally, 165 women in these areas will actively participate in production activities, increasing their income by 30%. To sustain these initiatives, a local fund with a total budget of approximately VND 1.5 billion will be established to support green and circular economy projects.

The project is designed to enhance women's capabilities and create job opportunities. By 2028, 300 women in the project areas will be trained in green and circular economy practices, ensuring stable employment and a minimum 30% income increase. More than just economic empowerment, this initiative positions women as pioneers in environmental protection. The project fosters a sustainable economy that balances development with nature conservation through collaboration between local authorities, professional organizations, and the community.

Ms. Vu Thi Bich Hau, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang City, emphasized the project's significance for women, stating that the city highly values and has approved its implementation. Currently, six key project activities are being carried out in Da Nang. She expressed hope that the project will achieve its objectives in the coming period and successfully implement all planned activities within the approved scope.

Supporting Women in Tra Vinh and Soc Trang in Disaster Risk Reduction

Bread for the World (BfdW) and ActionAid International has recently approved funding for the project "Enhancing Women's Role in Disaster Risk Reduction in Tra Vinh City (Tra Vinh Province) and Ke Sach District (Soc Trang Province)" (referred to as B5).

With a total budget of €670,000 (over VND 15.8 billion), the project is implemented by the Viet Nam Fund for Social Protection Program and Projects (AFV) and will run until 2026.

The project will be carried out in six communes across Tra Vinh and Soc Trang, two of the most disaster-prone provinces in the Mekong Delta, frequently affected by storm surges, saltwater intrusion, and land erosion.

B5 consists of two main components: Capacity-building for women in disaster risk reduction; Supporting local Women's Unions in implementing disaster risk reduction initiatives.

The project aims to ensure that at least 70% of participating women enhance their knowledge and skills to contribute to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Additionally, 30% of participants will apply these skills to develop community-driven initiatives that reduce disaster-related losses and mitigate the impacts of climate change on livelihoods and social welfare, particularly for women.

By the project's completion, nearly 3,000 women will have directly benefited, while over 13,000 community members will experience reduced losses from natural disasters and climate change. The initiative is vital in advancing sustainable development goals in the Mekong Delta.
