Powered by international support, schools in An Hai Ward, Da Nang City are stepping up waste sorting, reducing single-use plastics, and building green schools.
Pacific Environment Viet Nam has handed over 104 waste-sorting bins to three secondary schools, Phan Boi Chau, Nguyen Van Cu and Le Do, in An Hai Ward, Da Nang City. The initiative promotes waste sorting at source and encourages students to reduce single-use plastics at school.
The multi-compartment or separate bins allow different types of waste to be sorted on campus. This gives students, teachers and staff practical experience in daily waste separation and helps improve solid waste management.

Photo: PE-VN.The activity is part of the project “Promoting the Reduction of Single-Use Plastics in An Hai Ward, Da Nang City,” funded by Pacific Environment (US), with the Da Nang City People’s Committee as the managing agency and the An Hai Ward People’s Committee as the aid recipient.
In education, the project helps schools strengthen waste management, raise awareness, improve communication and gradually develop plans to reduce single-use plastics. By the end of 2027, the three schools: Phan Boi Chau, Nguyen Van Cu and Le Do, are expected to adopt and implement plastic reduction plans, with more than 80% of students, teachers, staff and officials participating.
Quach Thi Xuan, Pacific Environment’s Country Director in Viet Nam, said the waste-sorting equipment will improve school facilities, support more effective solid waste management and help reduce single-use plastic consumption.

Through training, communication and awareness activities, students, teachers and school staff are encouraged to take action and promote a plastic-reduction lifestyle,” Xuan said.
Approved under Decision No. 377/QD-UBND dated June 24, 2026, the project has a total budget of more than VND 1.15 billion (USD 45,819) and will run through December 2027.
It aims to reduce, reuse and replace single-use plastic products in communities, tourism and services. Alongside education, the project will pilot Ha Bong Street as a green tourism street that eliminates single-use plastics.
