HCMC aims to connect with Japanese and international partners, attract investment, boost trade and promote green agriculture through GREEN EXPO 2027.
The HCMC People’s Committee has issued a plan for the city to participate in GREEN EXPO 2027 in Yokohama, Japan, as part of the Viet Nam Pavilion. The city will showcase its strengths in urban agriculture, high-tech farming and the circular economy while seeking cooperation opportunities with Japanese and international businesses, investors and organisations.
According to the plan, GREEN EXPO 2027 will take place from March 19 to September 26, 2027. HCMC’s main programme is scheduled for May 22 to June 2, 2027, featuring “HCMC Day at GREEN EXPO 2027”, a trade promotion and business networking conference, and other promotional activities.
A key event will be the HCMC–Japan Trade Promotion and Business Networking Conference, tentatively scheduled for May 30 or 31, 2027, under the theme “Promoting Green Trade and Investment for Sustainable Agriculture”.
The conference is expected to introduce the city’s investment environment, priority sectors and projects seeking investment. Discussions will focus on urban agriculture, the circular economy, green transition, innovation and opportunities for international cooperation.
Trade cooperation between Viet Nam and Japan will also be discussed, with a focus on market demand, quality standards, traceability, processing technology, logistics and value chain development. Businesses from both sides will have opportunities to exchange solutions to improve access to the Japanese market, showcase products and projects, and establish connections based on their needs.
Participating business groups will include high-tech agriculture, producers of products under the One Commune One Product (OCOP) programme, food processing, green products, ornamental plants and ornamental fish.
The HCMC Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) has been assigned to lead the organisation of the conference. The city’s Department of Industry and Trade will help select products with export potential and connect businesses with distribution networks and import-export companies that meet Japanese and international standards.
These efforts are closely linked to the city’s role in agricultural research, technology application and transfer. According to Bui Minh Thanh, Vice Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, the city will continue to strengthen its position as a centre for agricultural research and technology transfer, while attracting investment in high-tech agriculture to develop an efficient and sustainable smart agriculture ecosystem.
The city will also continue working with domestic and international businesses and partners, creating opportunities to pilot new models and solutions and helping bring scientific and technological innovations into practical use.
At GREEN EXPO 2027, HCMC plans to set up an exhibition space within the Viet Nam Pavilion. Displays will highlight urban agriculture, high technology, digital transformation and models that reduce waste, reuse by-products, conserve water and energy, and cut emissions.
The city will prioritise four- and five-star OCOP products, green agricultural products, circular economy products and goods with export potential. All participating products must have clear origins and meet Japan’s plant quarantine and food safety requirements.
The HCMC Department of Agriculture and Environment will serve as the focal agency for implementing the plan, coordinating the selection of participating businesses, products and models.
Through exhibitions and business networking, the city aims to expand market opportunities for agricultural products while introducing international partners to investment and cooperation opportunities in green agriculture.
