Tan Hoa Commune in Can Tho City is developing a local mango brand while reorganizing production to improve quality, value and market access.

On August 26, at Hai Ngan Hamlet, the Tan Hoa Commune People’s Committee held a discussion on developing the “Tan Hoa mango” brand. The event marked an initial step toward reorganizing production, establishing a raw material area, improving quality and value, and gradually building a brand for the commune’s mangoes.

At the event, Le Hoang Xuyen, Secretary of the Tan Hoa Party Committee, said the commune has favorable soil and natural conditions for agricultural development. The commune has more than 3,000ha of fruit trees, including about 300ha of Hoa Loc mangoes.

According to Xuyen, Tan Hoa is preparing a development plan for the “Tan Hoa mango” brand for 2027-2030, which is expected to be submitted to the commune People’s Council by the end of 2026. The plan will focus on investment across the production chain, from farming techniques and raw material areas to product quality, labels, packaging and sales. The goal is to gradually establish the “Tan Hoa mango” brand.

The commune also launched the “Tan Hoa mango” production cooperative group at the event. The group is expected to bring mango growers together, gradually establish a raw material area, standardize production practices, control product quality and create a link with businesses.

Under the plan, Tan Hoa will initially establish a 30ha raw material area with around 70 participating households. Farmers will follow common production practices, keep production records, monitor agricultural inputs and pests, and apply proper harvesting and post-harvest handling practices. By 2030, the commune aims to expand the raw material area to at least 300ha, increase the share of traceable products, and secure stronger market links.

From a farmer’s perspective, Mr. Tran Van Quang from Hai Ngan Hamlet said he hopes the “Tan Hoa mango” brand will help farmers secure more stable markets and prices. Without a recognized brand, mango growers often face a cycle of bumper crops followed by falling prices and pressure from traders, he said. A well-developed local brand, combined with links to major businesses, would give farmers better access to stable markets.

Mr. Quang also called for more training and technical support to help farmers adapt to increasingly unpredictable weather and gradually adopt more advanced production practices.
