South Korea supports Vietnam in solid waste treatment

Korea is assisting Vietnam in implementing the Integrated Solid Waste Management projectin accordance with Vietnam conditions. The project will demonstratethe solid waste management model in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces.

Accordingly, Korean experts will work with their Vietnamese counterparts and relevant ministries, sectors and localities to study Vietnam's current situation. The Korea's experience in the field of management will also be summarized and exchanged to propose a model of solid waste management in accordance with Vietnam’s conditions.

Professor Kim Seungdo (Faculty of Environmental Biotechnology, Hallym University), the evaluation advisory team leader, said that Vietnam needs to pay attention to improve its solid waste management system. It is the systematic and accurate management of the amount of generated waste. In addition, the implementation of the integrated waste management national strategy should be evaluated. In particular, when planning a strategy, it is important to select a plan and objectives for promotion and checking.

Related to solid waste management in Vietnam, the experts highlighted four issues, including:minimizing the generation of solid waste; enhancing reuse and recycling; handling solid waste in sanitation manner; establishing solid waste management system.
