As part of a working visit to Venezuela, Mr. Nguyen Hong Son, Director General of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS), held a meeting with Mr. Jorge Marquez, Venezuela’s Vice President and Chairman of the Venezuela–Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee.

During the meeting, Vice President Jorge Marquez affirmed Venezuela’s commitment to actively promote and ensure the effective implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) for 2024–2030. He also pledged to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese investors to engage in agricultural production in Venezuela.

“The Venezuelan government is ready to allocate 10,000 hectares of arable land for Vietnamese enterprises to implement agricultural projects”, Marquez emphasized.

Director General Nguyen Hong Son expressed his appreciation for Venezuela’s warm reception and underscored the strong potential for agricultural cooperation between the two countries - already affirmed at both ministerial and state levels. He shared that VAAS had introduced Vietnamese mung bean varieties to Venezuela, which yielded promising results: productivity doubled, the proportion of large seeds (over 3.5mm) reached 86% - significantly higher than the local average of 30% - and the crop cycle was shortened to just 65 days.

Mr. Alex Sab, Venezuela’s Minister of Industry and National Production, proposed exploring the potential for soybean cultivation - a commodity in high domestic demand. He noted that Venezuela is prepared to allocate an additional 50,000 hectares of agricultural land for Vietnamese enterprises to invest in soybean farming projects.
