On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2025 (May 22), themed "Harmony with nature and sustainable development", the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment issued an official dispatch urging ministries, sectors, mass organizations, and localities across the country to actively respond through communication campaigns, awareness-raising efforts, and effective implementation of biodiversity conservation policies.

The Minister of Agriculture and Environment emphasized the continued effective implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy to 2030, with a Vision to 2050, along with the National Biodiversity Conservation Plan for 2021–2030, with a Vision to 2050. These efforts aim to restore and maintain the integrity and connectivity of biodiversity, conserve and sustainably use biological resources, and contribute to a green economy that is socially inclusive and climate-resilient.

The dispatch also calls on agencies and organizations to develop detailed action plans, allocate budgets, and mobilize diverse financial sources to strengthen investment in biodiversity conservation. Strengthened domestic and international cooperation is a key factor in attracting maximum support and investment for nature conservation. Furthermore, fair and equitable benefit-sharing from genetic resources and the development of sustainable livelihood models for local communities are also emphasized.

In addition, the Ministry highlights the importance of promoting scientific research related to biodiversity conservation and sustainable use. Applying modern science and technology to conservation models, species and gene pool protection is a priority. Serious implementation of biodiversity surveys, monitoring, and surveillance is necessary to adapt to the increasingly complex impacts of climate change.

The dispatch further calls for enhanced cross-border cooperation in managing nature and biodiversity with neighboring countries and stronger international partnerships in combating the illegal wildlife trade. It encourages agencies and organizations to actively exchange and learn from international experiences to improve the effectiveness of conservation efforts.

The International Day for Biological Diversity serves as an annual reminder of biodiversity's vital role in sustainable development, environmental security, and human well-being. The Ministry hopes to foster coordinated action from central to local levels, raise public awareness, and promote practical actions that protect and enhance Vietnam’s rich and diverse ecosystems.
