The Ministry of Industry and Trade launched the movement 'All people use energy economically and efficiently and respond to the Earth Hour 2026 Campaign' along with a large-scale running race on March 21.

This year's event not only responds to the global environmental campaign but also takes place amid ongoing pressure on world energy security due to conflicts in the Middle East, increasing the risk of supply chain disruptions and energy price volatility.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, this poses an urgent need to improve energy use efficiency, reduce dependence on external supplies, and optimize production costs while increasing the competitiveness of the economy.

In Viet Nam, energy saving continues to be identified as one of the key solutions. The Prime Minister has assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to develop energy-saving scenarios, step up communication on a society-wide scale, and simultaneously encourage the transition to green energy, develop transport vehicles using clean energy, enhance petrol and oil saving and promote the use of public transport.

Functional agencies are also reviewing conditions to implement the roadmap for using E10 biofuel, contributing to reducing mineral petrol consumption and diversifying supply sources.

This year's launch ceremony is associated with the message "Green Innovation - Green Future", is expected to attract more than 2,000 participants, and aims to shift awareness and behavior in energy use towards modernity and efficiency.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that the program aims to promote technology application, innovate production and consumption methods, thereby gradually forming rational energy use habits within the community.

The highlight of the event is the response-running race, which brings together professional and amateur athletes from management agencies, enterprises, social organizations, and citizens. This activity is designed as a form of visual communication that links the energy-saving message to a healthy, environmentally friendly lifestyle.

After the in-person race, an online version will be available on the 84RACE application from March 21 to April 11, expanding participation nationwide.

In addition, an online competition on economical and efficient energy use is also organized on the website tietkiemnangluong.com.vn, comprising 3 multiple-choice testing periods during the same time. This series of activities aims to create a widespread spillover effect, encouraging citizens to access knowledge and proactively change energy consumption behavior, starting from small daily actions.

Previously, on February 10, the Ministry of Industry and Trade sent a document to the People's Committees of provinces and cities, Vietnam Electricity Group and relevant units, requesting coordination to implement the movement nationwide.

For many years, Vietnam has been one of the countries actively participating in the Earth Hour Campaign, with the participation of a large number of localities, enterprises, and citizens, contributing to raising community awareness of energy conservation and environmental protection.

The Earth Hour 2026 Campaign will conclude with a one-hour lights-out activity, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on March 28. The organizers expect that through the series of events, the "all people save energy" movement will be more strongly promoted, contributing to building the economy towards green and sustainable development.
