The seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) was held from 8 to 12 December 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya, under the theme “Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet.” The conference brought together representatives from more than 190 Member States, along with international organizations, development partners, the scientific community, and the private sector.
Within the framework of UNEA-7, the Vietnamese delegation, led by Mr. Vu Duc Dam Quang, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, actively participated in all plenary sessions, high-level dialogues, and thematic discussions. Viet Nam’s strong presence at the United Nations’ largest environmental forum once again demonstrated the country’s sense of responsibility in global environmental processes, while reaffirming its determination to contribute to collective efforts to address pollution, environmental degradation, and climate change.

During the meeting with the EU Delegation, the two sides exchanged views in depth on future cooperation priorities, including the implementation of international environmental commitments, joint efforts toward achieving a global agreement on plastic pollution, and cooperation to strengthen waste management and air quality management. Viet Nam reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with the EU to advance multilateral negotiation processes in a balanced manner that harmonizes the interests of all countries.
The delegation also held discussions with GPAP. GPAP representatives highly valued Viet Nam as one of the regional frontrunners in policies to reduce plastic waste, particularly through the promulgation of the 2020 Law on Environmental Protection and regulations on extended producer responsibility (EPR). GPAP expressed its wish to continue accompanying Viet Nam in the negotiations on a global plastics agreement, enhancing data systems, promoting market-based solutions, and mobilizing resources for plastic reduction projects in Viet Nam.
Through its active participation in UNEA-7 sessions and the effective implementation of various bilateral activities, the Vietnamese delegation left a strong impression at the Assembly, demonstrating a clear stance and a strong sense of responsibility on global environmental issues. The outcomes of Viet Nam’s participation in UNEA-7 contribute to strengthening the country’s position in international environmental cooperation, supporting the domestic green transition, and reaffirming its commitment to working alongside the international community for a safer, more sustainable, and more resilient planet.
