Mr. Trinh Viet Hung, Permanent Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, has been approved by the National Assembly to serve as Minister of Agriculture and Environment.

On April 8, during the first session of the 16th National Assembly, all 481 lawmakers present voted in favor of a resolution approving the Prime Minister’s proposal to appoint ministers and other members of the government for the 2026-2031 term.
Under the resolution, Mr. Trinh Viet Hung - a member of the Party Central Committee and Permanent Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment for the 2021-2026 term - was appointed as Minister of Agriculture and Environment for the 2026-2031 term.
The newly appointed minister was born on Oct. 1, 1977, and is from Ninh Giang Commune in Hai Phong City. He holds an advanced degree in political theory and a doctorate in business administration. He also earned a master’s degree in agricultural economics, along with bachelor’s degrees in land management and agricultural economics.
Mr. Trinh Viet Hung previously served as chief of office of the Thai Nguyen Provincial People’s Committee before becoming secretary of the Dong Hy District Party Committee in 2014.
He later held several leadership positions in Thai Nguyen, including vice chairman and standing vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee, and chairman of the Thai Nguyen People’s Committee.
In 2021, he was elected an alternate member of the Party Central Committee for the 2021-2026 term. He later served as secretary of the Thai Nguyen Party Committee, and subsequently as secretary of the Lao Cai Party Committee and chairman of the Lao Cai People’s Council.
In January 2026, he was elected a member of the Party Central Committee for the 14th tenure. He was appointed permanent deputy minister of Agriculture and Environment in February 2026 and became a deputy of the 16th National Assembly in March 2026, before being approved as Minister of Agriculture and Environment on April 8, 2026.
