Bac Ninh has decided to invest USD 19 million to construct the Duc Mai pumping station, aiming to enhance drainage capacity, improve flood control, and safeguard production across thousands of hectares of farmland.

According to the People’s Committee of Bac Ninh Province, the Chairman has issued a decision approving the urgent construction project of the Duc Mai pumping station in My Thai Commune.

The project has a total investment of VND 500 billion (approximately USD 19 million), funded by the provincial budget. The investor is Bac Song Thuong Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd.

The existing Duc Mai pumping station, located at Km 5+500 on the left dike of the Thuong River, was built in 1978 with a small scale. After many years of operation, the facility has seriously deteriorated.

In particular, prolonged heavy rainfall and rising water levels on the Thuong river toward the end of 2025 inundated and severely damaged multiple components of the station, rendering it unable to meet current drainage and disaster prevention requirements.

Under the new design, the pumping station will be built at a larger scale, applying modern technology and integrating automated control and remote monitoring systems.

The project has a total designed capacity of 45 cubic meters per second, comprising six vertical pump units (each with a capacity of 7.5 m³/s). Key components include the pump house, intake basin, regulating reservoir, discharge basin, sluice through the dike, discharge canal, electrical system, and supporting infrastructure.

In addition, the project will construct connecting canals between drainage basins, restore the electrical system, and develop facilities to ensure synchronized management and operation.

According to assessments by relevant authorities, the construction of the Duc Mai pumping station is of particular importance in regulating water resources, enhancing drainage capacity, and strengthening flood control for the inter-regional area of Kep - Lang Giang - Tien Luc - My Thai.

The project is expected to provide drainage for approximately 8,200 hectares of agricultural land and residential areas, helping to protect crops, stabilize livelihoods, and minimize damage caused by natural disasters.

The project is scheduled for completion before December 31, 2027. Once operational, the Duc Mai pumping station will not only replace the deteriorated existing facility but also play a key role in the regional irrigation system, meeting socio-economic development needs amid increasingly complex climate change conditions.
